"You Were There" was written sometime near Jackson's death, in the late 2000s. Unknown if recorded. Among other titles, it became a contender for Jackson's never-finished eleventh studio album. Pictures of lyric sheets for the song were later found in court documents of Jeffré Phillips' lawsuit.[1]
