"You've Changed" is a song by American pop band The Jackson 5 released as the sixth track from their debut album, Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5. It was released as a B-side to the first single "Big Boy" on January 31, 1968 through Steeltown Records, making it the first B-side to be ever released by the group.

Background[]

The Jackson 5 began their career performing at talent contests, which they'd often win. During a performance at Beckman Junior High in Gary, Indiana, the group were brought to the attention of Gordon Keith — a singer, record producer, and a founder-owner of Steeltown Records, a small record company located in Gary. Keith, who was also a president and secretary of the label, signed the Jackson Five to six-month contract with him (each Steeltown Records co-owner individually discovered, signed, managed, and received any profit for each signed individual or group, using Steeltown Records (Steeltown label) as an umbrella to promote name recognition) in November 1967.[1][2]

The band recorded "You've Changed" in November 1967 at Sunny Sawyers Studios in South Chicago, with Jesse Reese writing it and Bobby Taylor composing it. It was then put out as a B-side to "Big Boy", becoming the first ever song to be held as a B-side by the group.

However, The Jackson 5 weren't done with "You've Changed", as after they left Steeltown in order to sign with Motown, they re-recorded the piece at Studio A of Hitsville West for their upcoming debut album in two seperate days, July 19 & 29, 1969.

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
Hoo-hoo-hoo!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Verse 1]
I remember when you was a little girl
I say you never, ever, ever wore curls
You wore nothing but an ole shaggy, shaggy dress
I say you never ever tried to look your best

[Chorus]
Now when I look at you
All my love come running through
You've changed and it's showing yeah
My love for you has grown (my love has grown)
You've changed and it showing (Ohh)

Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Verse 2]
Your legs were little, but now they are big
Instead of wearing ponytails
You got a little ole red wig
Your eyes are pretty, you got some kissable lips
And I love they way you walk, way you sway your little hips

[Chorus]
Now when I look at you
All my love come running through
You've changed and it's showing
My love for you is growing, yeah
You've changed and it showing

Hoo hoo
Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Bridge]
(Your walk) Ooh baby, I love the way you walk
(Your talk) Ooh, the way you speak to me
(Your looks) Ooh, my honey sugar
(Your eyes) ooh ooh baby, hypnotise

[Chorus]
Now when I look at you
All my love comes running through
(You changed and it's showing)
Ooh, you changed and it's showing
(My love for you is growing)
My love, my love, my love is growing
(You changed and it's showing)
Hoo, you changed and it's showing

Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Outro]
(Your walk) Ooh baby, I love the way you walk
(Your talk) Your talk, your talk, hoo, now
(Your looks) Ooh, my honey sugar

Trivia[]

  • On an early LP of Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5, the title was actually written as "You've Changed (Me)" instead of "You've Changed". This is because, a Motown staffer presumably confused the song with Smokey Robinson's nearly identical named track "You've Changed Me".[3]
