"Why Can't You Hear Me" was worked on by Jackson and Bottrell between 2005-2006 during the artist's stay in Bahrain following the People v. Jackson trial.
On January 21, 2024 Bottrell detailed his involvement further through his X account. He added he has "no idea" how the song found its way on the internet, even though it was him who initially posted it.
