"Water" is an unreleased song written and produced by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson intended for the scrapped eleventh studio album.
Background[]
"Water" was made with Neff-U and recorded in 2008.[1] According to Damien Shields, the song included water splashes (as the title suggests) and that only chorus and background vocals for the chorus were ever recorded.
“ | Recorded in MJ’s final years. Production includes water splash sounds. Only lyrics: “Inches of water, water, trying to take a piece of my mind/Inches of water, water, trying to take a piece of my time.” Very nice background vocals: “Inches of water, ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo. | ” |

Audio[]
A snippet of "Water" first leaked online alongside "Adore You" and "Michael's Affirmation". According to those who heard the full song, the leak "doesn't do justice" to the song as what's available is a low-quality phone recording.
A second, longer and HQ snippet of "Water" leaked on September 27, 2024 after being provided for the 9th episode of Damien Shields' Faking Michael podcast.[3] This leak appears to be missing drums featured in the previous snippet. Fans theorized it was either another part of the track, or possibly a different mix.
Lyrics[]
[Chorus]
Inches of water, water
Tryin' to take a piece of my mind
Inches of water, water
Tryin' to take a piece of my time
Trivia[]
- It is rumored, that Michael sang a bit of the song right after the "Billie Jean" rehearsals during rehearsals in the Michael Jackson's This Is It movie.[4]
