The song was registered with The U.S. Copyright Office in 1985. "Stand Tall" was written and recorded in 1982 during the Thriller album sessions at Westlake Studios. No one but Jackson is credited for writing it, however according to fan and researcher Damien Shields, he might've never recorded it, and the track he heard features a male session singer.[1]
