"Son of Thriller" is an unreleased remix written and produced by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson and American record producer Bryan Loren. It's unknown what project it was intended for.
Background[]
"Son of Thriller" was first acknowledged by fans during Loren's Music First Association seminar in 2016. It can be assumed to have been a side project, rather than something conceived for Dangerous. Jackson and Loren made it in 1989 and the full runtime is 3:06. The remix would include excerpts from some of the artist's biggest hits at the time: "Thriller", "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and "Billie Jean".[1]
On December 12, 2024, 12 tapes containing various unreleased songs, including "Son of Thriller", were found in an abandoned storage unit. While some have been released and leaked before, others are yet to be leaked.[2] The tape containing "Son of Thriller" specifically dates back to August 29 of that year.
In February and April 2025, a cassette with a finished instrumental to "Son of Thriller" was put on auction through gottahaverockandroll.com.[3] This version is mentioned to be two minutes longer than what Loren played at his seminar in 2016.
