"Rock with You" is a song by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson, released as the second track from the Off the Wall album. It was released as a single on November 3, 1979, serving as the second single from the album. The song is considered one of the last big hits of the disco era.

A live version was later released as a B-side to the "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" single.

Background[]

"Rock with You" was written by Rod Temperton and was produced by Quincy Jones. It was recorded between December 8, 1978–June 25, 1979 at Allen Zentz Recording, Westlake,and Cherokee Studios.

Music video[]

The music video, directed by Bruce Gowers[1] was filmed in 1979 at the 800 Stage in Los Angeles.[2] It was released late in the same year, and used the shorter single version. The music video features Jackson in a sparkly sequined suit singing the song with green-colored bright lasers behind him.

Live performances[]

Jackson first performed "Rock with You" during the second leg of The Jacksons' Destiny World Tour. He then performed it in the next two tours by The Jackson.

"Rock with You" appeared on the setlist of the Bad World Tour, and was rehearsed for the Dangerous World Tour, but was cut from the setlist. It did come back for HIStory World Tour, as a part of the Off the Wall medley (also featuring "Off the Wall" and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough") in certain concerts. "Rock with You" would've been performed for the This Is It concerts, but the shows were canceled due to Jackson's passing.
