Nadir Khayat, professionally known as RedOne, is a Moroccan singer, songwriter, record producer, and record executive. He is known to have made multiple songs with Michael Jackson in the final years of his life.

Meeting & work[]

Nadir first met Jackson in 2008, beginning his work with the King of Pop in Las Vegas.

Honestly, I’m not allowed to talk about Michael at all. I just love him. I’m a big fan of his. There’s something going on, but I can’t talk about it.

–RedOne, lasvegassun.com, 2008[1]

During the sessions, Jackson and RedOne seemed to have formed a friendship of sorts, as Jackson would explain to the record producer his love for Morocco.

He cared about how you are as a person; he wanted to know about your brothers and sisters, your mum, your country. He told me he’d been to Morocco, he loved Morocco. He told me he loved Moroccan food and wanted to meet my mum; he said he wanted to meet the mum who made this person, because (he said) you’re a beautiful person and he said he wanted to taste her food.

–RedOne on Michael Jackson, "‘Michael Jackson was supposed to come to Morocco to visit me and my family’: RedOne", April 5, 2018[2]

The two would continue to work together up until Michael's final months. They're said to have crafted multiple recordings, one of which is known as "Dancing for Love". Following Jackson's passing in June, Khayat would confirm they made enough material for him to tinker with and finish it, but that it depends on the record label if they'd want to allow it, and most of all, the Michael Jackson Estate.

I have big plans. There is material that could come out [from the Jackson sessions]. In case I’m going to release something, I would do it for charity, for something that he would have been proud of, because you always felt like everybody wanted to take advantage of him though his life. The music we were doing was good, really good…very energetic, uplifting. It’s sad that we never finished the material. Michael always has been focused on having hits, not having songs, so he always records a lot of songs and takes the best of them and that’s his formula which I love. We were doing good quality music and it’s never been finished.

–RedOne on the unfinished material made with Michael Jackson, Billboard, "Producer RedOne Eyes Michael Jackson Release", January 21, 2010[3]

So far, none of their songs had been officially released or leaked online.
