"Reach Out, I'll Be There" is a previously unreleased cover of the Four Tops song by American pop band The Jackson 5 released as the sixty-sixth track on the Soulsation! boxset.
Background[]
"Reach Out, I'll Be There" was written by Holland-Dozier-Holland and Lou Del Gatto, with Bobby Taylor being the composer. It was recorded between May-August 1969 for the debut album, Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5. It also appeared on an early pressing of the album.[2] However, "Born to Love You" ultimately replaced it last minute.
Lyrics[]
[Intro]
Oh oh oh
Hoo hoo hoo, hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo
[Verse 1]
Now if you feel you can't go on, ooh hoo
(Can't go on)
'Cause all your hope is gone
(All your hope is gone)
And your life is filled with confusion
(Filled with confusion)
And happiness is just an illusion
(Happiness is just an illusion)
And your world around is crumblin' down
Darlin' (Reach out) come on girl, reach out for me
Reach out (Reach out), reach out for me
Just look over your shoulders, honey
[Chorus]
I'll be there (Be there)
With the love that will shelter you
And I'll be there (Be there)
With the love that will see you through
[Verse 2]
(Ooh) When you feel lost and about to give up
(About to give up)
'Cause your best ain't good enough
(Just ain't good enough)
And the world around you feels cold
(World is so cold)
And you're driftin' all on your own
(Driftin' out on your own)
When you need a hand to hold
Darlin' (Reach out)
Come on, girl, reach out for me
Reach out, (Reach out), reach out, reach out for me
Just open up them eyes, baby, ha
[Chorus]
I'll be there (Be there)
With the love that will comfort you
And I'll be there (Be there)
To cherish and care for you
I'll be there (Yes, I will)
To always see you through
I'll be there (I'll be there)
To love and comfort you
[Verse 3]
I can tell the way you hang your head, ooh hoo
(Hang your head)
You're without love, and now you're afraid
(Now you're so afraid)
And through your tears you look around
(You look around)
But there's no peace of mind to be found
(No peace of mind to be found)
I know what you're thinkin'
You're alone now, no love of your own (Darlin', yeah)
Darlin' (Reach out)
Come on, girl, reach out for me
Reach out (Reach out), reach out, reach out for me
Just call my name, honey, ha
[Chorus]
I'll be there (I'll be there)
To give you all the love you need
I'll be there (Be there)
You can always depend on me (Always depend on me)
I'll be there (I'll be there, yes, I will)
With the love that will shelter you (Ooh, ooh)
I'll be there (I'll be there)
With a love that will comfort you
