Sir James Paul McCartney (born June 18, 1942) is an English singer, songwriter and musician, best known as the bassist and one of the main songwriters of The Beatles.
Relationship with Michael Jackson[]
Michael Jackson and McCartney collaborated multiple times.
"Girlfriend", a song by Jackson, was originally recorded by McCartney for his Wings album, London Town. However, he felt that the song fit better for Jackson, so he mentioned it to Jackson at a party in Hollywood. The latter had stated in interviews with the music press in the 1970s that he was a fan of The Beatles, and the chance to record a Paul original helped to inspire his next project. However, Paul ended up recording it himself with The Wings, and was eventually released on London Town. Jackson later recorded a version of the song on Off the Wall.
In 1982, McCartney collaborated with Jackson for the first time on "The Girl Is Mine", the lead single from Thriller. The following year, Jackson returned the favor on two of McCartney's songs, "Say Say Say" and "The Man", both from the latter's album, Pipes of Peace.
In 1985, Jackson acquired the ATV Music Publishing catalog (which held the rights to nearly every Beatles song) uncontested by McCartney.[1][2][3] According to the latter, they "drifted apart" after he talked to Jackson about getting a "raise", and the latter didn't act on it.
