"Muscles" is a song by Diana Ross released as the first track and lead single on her album, Silk Electric. Michael Jackson provides background vocals, although uncredited.

Background[]

The song was first recorded in 1982, and was written and produced by Jackson himself. The song was originally intended to be Diana's R&B answer to the massive hit by Olivia-Newton John at the time, "Physical".

Music Video[]

The single's music video features Ross in bed dreaming of muscular men. In one scene she is shown floating through the air over a landscape which turns out to be a man's musclebound body. The video features a young Gil Birmingham in one of his very first-ever media appearances.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
She said she wants a man
To always understand
But that's alright for her
Still, it ain't enough for me
And she said she wants a guy
To keep her satisfied
But that's alright for her
But it ain't enough for me

[Pre-Chorus]
Still, I don't care if he's young or old
(Just make him beautiful)
I just want someone I can hold on to

[Chorus]
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)

[Verse 2]
Now, they say they have to see
His real personality
But that's alright for them
Still, it ain't enough for me
But I need what the eyes can see, ah
(His anatomy)
If that's alright for them
Still, it ain't enough for me

[Pre-Chorus]
I don't care if he's young or old
(Just make him beautiful)
I just want some strong man to hold on to

[Chorus]
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
I want muscles
Oh, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)

[Bridge]
Muscle man, I want to love you
In the sun, oil on your body
Come with me, high in the cascades
Let this be, we've got this thing made
Lost at sea, hot in the desert
Stay with me, you won't regret it
Take this love, so deep to swim in
Come to me, and let my love in

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 3]
She said she wants a man
To always understand
But that's alright for her
Still, it ain't enough for me

[Pre-Chorus]
I don't care if he's young or old
(Just make him beautiful)
I just want someone I can hold on to

[Chorus]
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
I want muscles
All over, all over him, all over him
I want muscles
All, all, all over his body
I want muscles
(I want all I can get)
All over him, all over him, all over him

[Outro]
I want muscles, muscles, muscles, muscles
Muscles, muscles, muscles, muscles
Muscles
