"Much Too Soon" is a previously unreleased song written and produced by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson, released as the seventh and final track from the first posthumous album, Michael.
Background[]
"Much Too Soon" was first recorded in 1981 during the Thriller sessions at Hayvenhurst, originally titled "Learned My Lesson". Two versions of the song were registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.[1] However, it didn't make the final cut.
"Much Too Soon" was reworked in 1994, during the HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I sessions. Bruce Swedien was behind the mixing. However, again, the track didn't make the cut.
"Much Too Soon" was completed in 2010 for Michael. A different mixing and additional production was added with McClain returning to work on the song.

In 2018, #JCsMusicology uploaded a podcast regarding Jackson's work between 1993–1997, where a snippet of the original, 1994 master recording of "Much Too Soon" was included.[2]
An early mix of the 2010 Michael version leaked online at an unknown date. It is nearly identical to the released version, with very minor changes.
On January 13, 2020, multitracks for the 2010 version leaked online.[3]
