Michael Jackson: For The Record is a book written by Chris Cadman and Craig Halstead, released in 2007 and rewritten in 2009. It documents their research on the music Michael Jackson worked on up until his passing, including released and unreleased material, remixes, samples and more.
While the book remains a significant literary work, a majority of the content is now considered outdated. Although some aspects have been validated, many others have been disproven, making it an unreliable source for factual information.
Background[]
Cadman and Halstead previously wrote multiple books about Jackson, starting in 1990 with The Complete Michael Jackson Solo Discography 1972-90 for the Off the Wall fan magazine. Writing for Michael Jackson: For The Record started sometime in the mid-2000s. The book's writers went through multiple sources, including the U.S. Copyright Office, BMI, ASCAP, The Songwriters Hall of Fame, and more. They also interviewed producers and songwriters who worked with Jackson (e.g. Sisqó, Babyface).
2009 Edition[]
Following Jackson's passing on June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson: For The Record was expanded and revised in the same year, with even more songs and more info on them.
