"Happy" (also titled "Happy (Love Theme from Lady Sings the Blues)") is a song by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson released as the fourth track from the Music & Me album. It was released as a single on July 10, 1973, serving as the second single from the album. It was also included as the "love theme" for the 1972 movie, Lady Sings the Blues.

"Happy" was re-released as a single in July 1983,[1] to promote the compilation album, 18 Greatest Hits. The re-release also had cover artwork.

Background[]

"Happy" was originally recorded by Bobby Darin, and was written by Michel Legrand and Smokey Robinson. According to the latter, the song was inspired by the melody of Lady Sings the Blues, originally composed by Legrand.

Jackson recorded his rendition in August 1972, with Hal Davis behind the production of it. Although his rendition was never featured in the film, an instrumental version was used; however, it wasn't featured on the soundtrack for the film.
