"Happy" (also titled "Happy (Love Theme from Lady Sings the Blues)") is a song by Michael Jackson, released as the fourth track from the Music & Me album. It was released as a single in 1983, serving as the third and final single from the album. It was also included as the "love theme" for the 1972 movie, Lady Sings the Blues.
Background[]
It was originally recorded by Bobby Darin. While the song with Jackson's vocals doesn't appear in Lady Sings the Blues, an instrumental does.
In 1983, years after Jackson moved from to Epic, "Happy" was released as a single, to promote the 18 Greatest Hits compilation album, released by Motown. The b-side features "In Our Small Way" and "We're Almost There".

Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Sadness had been
Close as my next of kin
Then Happy came one day
Chased my blues away
[Chorus 1]
My life began when Happy smiled
Sweet, like candy to a child
Stay here and love me just a while
Let sadness see what Happy does
Let Happy be where Sadness was
[Verse 2]
Happy, that's you
You made my life brand new
Lost as a little lamb was I
'Til you came in
[Chorus 1]
My life began when Happy smiled
Sweet, like candy to a child
Stay here and love me just a while
Let sadness see what Happy does
Let Happy be where Sadness was
('Til now)
[Bridge]
Where have I been?
What lifetime was I in?
Suspended between time and space
Lonely until
[Chorus 2]
Happy came smiling up at me
Sadness had no choice but to flee
I said a prayer so silently
Let Sadness see what Happy does
Let Happy be where Sadness was
'Til now
[Outro]
Happy
Yeah, yeah, happy
La-la-la la, la la la la
Yeah, happy
Ooh, happy
La-la-la la, la la la la
Happy
Oh, yeah, happy
La-la-la la, la la la la
Happy
Ooh, happy
La-la-la la, la la la la
