"Give In to Me" is a song written and produced by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson, released as the tenth track from the Dangerous album. It was released as a single on February 15, 1993, serving as the seventh single from the album. Slash of Guns N' Roses is featured on the electric guitar, marking the first studio collaboration between him and Jackson.
The track is often compared to "Dirty Diana", the song's B-side, with both taking their place as "the rock songs" on Bad and Dangerous.
Background[]
"Give In to Me" was written and produced by Jackson and Bill Bottrell. It was recorded between 1990–1991.[1] Slash seems to have joined the production late, as the leaked demos don't feature him or his solos.
| “ | He sent me a tape of the song that had no guitars other than some slow picking, I called him and sang over the phone what I wanted to do. [...] I basically went in and started to play - that was it, Michael just wanted whatever was in my style. He just wanted me to do that - no pressure. He was really in synch with me. | ” |

| “ | Bill Bottrell put in some great production on this track. Because he had his hand in there it ended up sounding perfect. He had the magic touch and had everything levelled up nicely. He's been doing it for so long. He's the best with microphones, and knowing where to sit the instruments on the track. He's really good. I also like Bruce Swedien who mixed some tracks on this album. I'd never worked with Brucey before that. But I always ask for him as an engineer after working with him on this. | ” |

Music video[]
The music video for "Give In to Me" was shot in Munich, Germany, only two days before the start of the Dangerous World Tour.[3] It has the look and feel of a live concert, the second of Jackson's videos to do so (following "Dirty Diana"). The video features Slash as well as fellow Guns N' Roses rhythm guitarist Gilby Clarke and touring keyboardist Teddy "Zig Zag" Andreadis.
Audio[]
A 15-minute low-quality recording excerpt of the 1-hour, 55-minute writing session for "Give In to Me" leaked from Brad Sundberg's seminars in 2020. A cut-down HQ version would surface online on January 27, 2023, after Sundberg's laptop got stolen. A full 1990 demo leaked in the 2000s. This didn't feature Slash yet, and included a slightly different production and bridge.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
She always takes it with a heart of stone
'Cause all she does is throws it back to me
I've spent a lifetime looking for someone
Don't try to understand me
Just simply do the things I say
[Chorus]
Love is a feeling
Give it when I want it
'Cause I'm on fire
Quench my desire
Give it when I want it
Talk to me, woman
Give in to me, give in to me
[Verse 2]
You always knew just how to make me cry
And never did I ask you questions why
It seems you get your kicks from hurting me
Don't try to understand me
Because your words just aren't enough
[Chorus]
Love is a feeling
Quench my desire
Give it when I want it
Takin' me higher
Love is a woman
I don't wanna hear it
Give in to me, give in to me
[Bridge]
You and your friends were laughing at me in town
But it's okay, yes, it's okay
You won't be laughing, girl, when I'm not around
I'll be okay
And I'd, I'd never find
Better, a peace of mind, no
[Guitar Solo]
[Pre-Chorus]
Don't try to tell me
Because your words just aren't enough
[Chorus]
Love is a feeling
Quench my desire
Give it when I want it
Takin' me higher
Talk to me, woman
Love is a feeling
Give in to me, give in to me, give in to me
Oh, love is a feeling
I don't wanna hear it
Quench my desire
Takin' me higher
Tell it to the preacher
Satisfy the feeling
Give in to me, give in to me
[Guitar Solo]
[Outro]
I don't wanna, I don't wanna
I don't wanna hear it
Give in to the fire
Talk to me, woman
Quench my desire
I'd like a lady
Talk to me, baby
Give in to me
Give in to the fire
Give in to me
Give in to me
Give in to me
Love is wrong
Give in to me
Give in to me
Give in to me
Give in to me
'Cause I'm on fire
Talk to me, woman
Quench my desire
Give in to the feeling
[Verse 1]
She always takes it with a heart of stone

Taking me higher

I don't wanna hear it
Give in to me, give in to me
[Bridge]
I don't wanna hear you throwin' around
But it's okay and it's okay
And things are changing little around the town
and it's alright
and I'd, love it
I might live my life alone girl
[Guitar Solo]
[Pre-Chorus]
Don't try to tell me
Because your words just aren't enough
[Chorus]
Love is a feeling
Quench my desire
Give it when I want It
Taking me higher
Talk to me, woman

Trivia[]
- In the leaked demo, Jackson sings a different word instead of "woman" in the lyric "love is a woman". It is usually agreed upon that he sings "donna", which is Italian for "woman".
- On October 25, 2013, Damien Shields posted a clip of Jackson and Bottrell in the studio right before collaborative sessions for "Give In to Me". It was uploaded on SoundCloud and features the artist singing "Dig It" by the Beatles. Shields received the audio from Brad Sundberg.[5]
- "Give In to Me" is speculated to have evolved from an unreleased track called "Jane Is a Groupie", although this is unconfirmed.
