"Fall Again" is a previously unreleased song by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson, released as the fiftieth track from The Ultimate Collection. It isn't currently available on streaming services, but can be purchased through iTunes.
Background[]
"Fall Again" was written and produced by Walter Afanasieff and Robin Thicke (who also provides backing vocals). It was recorded in 1999 for Invincible but it didn't make the cut.
| “ | We worked to the point that we were three-fourths of the way finished, then the incident happened when his son got very sick. We’re going to have to reserve a little spot to finish the song. | ” |
–Afanasieff in Michael Jackson: For The Record[1]
| “ | When Ricky Martin performed “A Cup of Life” (“La Copa De Vida”) on the Grammys and became a superstar the next day, Tommy Mottola called Walter Afanasieff and asked if he had a song for Ricky Martin and Madonna to do a duet because Madonna wanted to do a duet with Ricky apparently. This is what I was told. And then Walter calls me and says, “Remember that song we started, ‘Fall Again’? I think we should finish it because I think it’ll be good for Ricky Martin and Madonna.” We finish the song in my studio and he sends it to Tommy. The next day, Tommy says, “I want to send it to Michael Jackson.” A few days later I’m in New York writing for Sony for 10 days. That’s when I wrote for Marc Anthony and a few other Sony artists in that 10 days. And Michael was next door cutting ‘Fall Again.’ I wasn’t allowed to go in the session, but he was literally in the wall next to me while I was writing with Marc Anthony. | ” |
–Afanasieff on how "Fall Again" originated in an article by The Hollywood Reporter[2]
"Fall Again" eventually landed on the soundtrack to a 2002 movie starring Jennifer Lopez, Maid In Manhattan, now performed by Glenn Lewis.
In 2019, writing session footage of "Fall Again" leaked, featuring Jackson and Afanaiseff.

Lyrics[]
[Intro]
Oh, ooh-ooh
Alright, ah
[Verse 1]
Feels like a fire that burns in my heart
Every single moment that we spend apart
I need you around for every day to start
I haven't left you alone
Something about you, the stare in your eyes
Everything I'm looking for I seem to find
All this time away is killing me inside
I need your love in my life
[Chorus]
I wanna spend time 'til it ends
I wanna fall with you again
Like we did when we first met
I wanna fall with you again
[Post-Chorus]
Ooh-ooh
Ta-da-die
[Verse 2]
Fought in a battle where nobody won
Left ourselves a mountain to be overcome
You can't run away, the past is said and done
I need us to carry on, oh-oh-oh
[Chorus]
I wanna spend time 'til it ends
I wanna fall with you again
Like we did when we first met
I wanna fall with you again
[Post-Chorus]
(Ooh-ooh)
[Bridge]
You tried everything you never thought of before
When you live, when you love, when you give them your all
Always give up some more
Nothing here means anything, no, we
I can live, I can breathe, I can die in my sleep
You're always there in my dreams
[Chorus]
I wanna spend time 'til it ends
I wanna fall with you again
Like we did when we first met
I wanna fall with you again
I wanna spend time 'til it ends
I wanna fall with you again
Like we did when we first met (When we first met)
I wanna fall with you again
[Outro]
(Ooh-ooh)
Alright, alright
All of the time
Here in my heart
That's cool, great sound

Trivia[]
- The outro features Jackson expressing his satisfaction over a sound effect used in the track.
- In the leaked writing session, after singing the lyric "I can die in my sleep", Jackson tells Afanasieff: "I don't wanna die in my sleep. But it's the song, right?", which is ironic as he did eventually die in his sleep.
