Background

The track was recorded between April and June 1979. Jackson said the track doesn't have a specific meaning, but that it can be about whatever people want it to be about. Reportedly, when Michael's mother, Katherine (a Jehovah's Witness) heard the song, she thought he wrote it about sex, which Jackson reassured her it wasn't.

Music video

"Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" received a music video, directed by Nick Saxton and released in October 1979. It was the first music video released by the artist.

Live performances

Jackson performed "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" throughout the Destiny Tour and Triumph Tour. On occasions, it was performed during some of the HIStory World Tour shows, as a part of the Off The Wall Medley.
