Background[]

The song was registered with U.S. Copyright Office in 2010. "Don't Make Me Stay" is credited with Neff-U behind the production, meaning the recording most definitely originates from 2008 or 2009.^[1]

“	I’ve heard a legit MJ song called “Don’t Make Me Stay”. I have no idea what era it’s from. But yeah that one is titled and labelled as “Don’t Make Me Stay” and Michael sings those exact words in the chorus. Parts of the chorus remind me of “Runaway” by Janet. Super rough demo. [...] Don’t Make Me Stay had a scratch vocal [...] The only coherent lyrics I could make out were the words “don’t make me stay." [...] The music is done but it seems like MJ is just feeling out the vocal melody. Throwing out random words and ad libs. Nothing coherent. And it's recorded with a room mic, so the vocal is distant.
