"Days in Gloucestershire" (also known as "Gloucestershire") is an unreleased song written and produced by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson. On March 4, 2014, the track leaked online after being gatekept by sellers for four years. ( listen)
Background[]
Inspiration[]
It is often speculated that on "Days in Gloucestershire", Jackson sings about his visits to said place in England during The Jackson 5 days, which he recalled as one of his fondest memories. In the song, however, he doesn't sing about missing the city, but rather wishes to experience such happiness again with his partner.
Meanwhile, on the 100th episode of the MJCast, the song's co-writer, Brad Buxer, mentioned the track to have been written "about his life at the time".[1]
Production[]
Song titles note
"Days in Gloucestershire" was created by Jackson and Buxer in 2004. During production, Buxer went back to his home for a couple of days, while Michael Prince joined Jackson to record the vocals in the bathroom of one of the Neverland Ranch's bungalows.[2]
Buxer recalled the aforementioned year as the best for his and Jackson's creative process and studio work in general.[3] Although the latter left the track unfinished for the time being, Jackson planned on finishing it before his death.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Like we really used to before we met in the fall
Back in the day when my youth was golden
We really had it all, oh
[Chorus]
Hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
The view is changing
See them laughing, in their gardens
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire, again
[Post-Chorus]
Ahh, oooh, ahhhh
Da da da, da da da da-aa
[Verse 2]
Hold me like you really used to before we met in the fall
Back in the day when my youth was golden
We really had it all, oh
[Chorus]
Hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
The view is changing
See them laughing, in their gardens
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire, again
[Verse 3]
Hold me like you really used to before we met in the fall
Back in the day when my youth was golden
We really had it all
[Chorus]
So, hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
The view is changing
See them laughing, in their gardens
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire ('cestershire, 'cestershire)
'Cestershire ('cestershire)
Hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
The view is changing
See them laughing, in their gardens
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire
I wish that we’ll see Gloucestershire, again
My friend, so
Hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
Hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
Just hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
Just hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
Just hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
Just hold me like you really used to
A summer's day in Gloucestershire
Just hold me like you really used to
