The Dangerous World Tour was the fourth worldwide solo concert tour by Michael Jackson. The tour, sponsored by Pepsi-Cola, included 70 performances. All profits were donated to various charities including Jackson's own "Heal the World Foundation." The tour ran from June 27,1992 to November 11, 1993.

In November 1993, Jackson ended the tour due to, as he announced, illness that required hospitalization. The performer became dependent on painkillers, having suffered from dehydration, migraines and injuries. Originally, the Dangerous World Tour was supposed to run until Christmas of 1993.

Overview

Following the huge success of the Bad world tour, Michael Jackson's third solo world tour, where he earned $125 million, the star claimed that he would not tour again, and would instead concentrate on making films and records. On February 3, 1992, in a Pepsi press conference, it was announced that Jackson would be touring again. The announcement coincided with a new deal between Jackson and Pepsi, with a reported $20,000,000 deal to sponsor the tour.

In an interview, Jackson stated, "The only reason I am going on tour is to raise funds for the newly-formed Heal the World Foundation, an international children's charity, that I am spearheading to assist children and the ecology. My goal is to gross $100,000,000 by Christmas 1993. I urge every corporation and individual who cares about this planet and the future of the children to help raise money for the charity. The Heal the World Foundation will contribute funds to pediatric AIDS in honor of my friend Ryan White. I am looking forward to this tour because it will allow me to devote time to visiting children all around the world, as well as spread the message of global love, in the hope that others will be moved to do their share to help heal the world."

Here is an (currently incomplete) list of full, near-full, and snippets of concerts of the Dangerous Tour:

1. Munich 1992 - The full concert has never been shown, but snippets from the concert have been shown on MTV and the Veronica Channel: "JAM" (black jacket used from 1993 leg instead of the standard silver one), "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" (sung in it's original pitch), I Just Can't Stop Loving You. "Billie Jean", the first verse/chorus and ending of "Bad", and "Black Or White", mostly taken from news reports. "Billie Jean" has 3 different versions, one by MTV as a special, one on the Dangerous Diaries documentary (also MTV), and the other version shown on Channel 4 and Veronica Channel. Both MTV versions have a snippet of Jackson's original acapella recording for "Billie Jean" placed over his live vocals when Jackson throws his fedora at the end of the performance, while the Channel 4/Veronica versions retain the original live vocals while also having different camera angles. There's also a brief snippet from Smooth Criminal. There is also a full amateur audio recording of the concert in high quality available. Here, Beat It is sung in it's original pitch as well. There's also a petition to the MJ Company to release the concert in DVD.
2. Rotterdam 1992 - The full concert has never been shown, but two snippets from the first show included "Jam" and "Wanna Be Starting Something" (sung in it's original pitch), both taken from news reports. A full amateur audio recording of the second show is also available.
3. Rome 1992 - One snippet of "Jam" and two snippets of "WBSS" are available. A near-full amateur audio recording of the concert is available online. There's also almost 37 minutes of amateur footage recorded straight from the Jumbotron available.
4. Monza 1992 - No professionally filmed recordings exist from either show. There are however two amateur filmed recordings from both show, the first one from the first show is only 40 minutes long, while the second one is the actual full recording from the second show.
5. Cologne 1992 - A snippet of Jam and an almost full performance of Billie Jean are available professionally. A near full amateur video recording exists, and also a complete amateur audio recording (missing the Jackson 5 Medley).
6. Oslo 1992 - 30 minutes of pro footage was unofficially leaked, with the footage bearing the MJ Beats logo. They were planning to release it officially like they did with the Bremen concert, but someone leaked low quality rips of the footage without permission. As a result, the full show was only fully leaked two years later through crowd-funding efforts. This show is notable by the fact that it was performed in full daylight, and also features the last performances of The Way You Make Me Feel and Bad before the Tokyo shows. When the show was released, it marked the first time that the MJ community was able to see a full pro-recording of Bad in the Dangerous Tour. Due to the show being split in two tapes, the ending of "Working Day and Night" and the begin of "Beat It" are missing.
7. Stockholm 1992 - Full amateur video recordings from both shows in Stockholm are available. Two snippets from the first show (Jam & Wanna Be Startin' Something) are available also. A full pro recording of the first night is rumored to exist.
8. Copenhagen 1992 - The full show has been available since June 24th 2019 after it was bought via crowdfunding efforts.
9. Bremen 1992 - Leaked by MJ Beats in November 2015. This show is notable for missing some of special effects used during the 1992 shows. The full Rocket Man ending is missing.
10. Bucharest 1992 - Two official versions exist. The first was broadcast by the BBC network, and an edited version was broadcast by HBO, later officially released on DVD as part of the Ultimate Collection in 2005.
11. Tokyo 1992 - Only a performance of The Way You Make Me Feel (December 12) is available. It was the first full recording of the song in pro from the Dangerous Tour to be available. Despite normally singing the final parts of the song live in both the Bad and Dangerous Tours, in this show Michael fully lip synced the song.
12. Buenos Aires 1993 - First footage of the concert surfaced around 2011, but it would be only fully released in 2013. Very notable by the fact of Michael been almost kissed in the mouth by the girl of "She's Out Of My Life". As of now is the only 1993 show available in Pro footage.

Trivia

• After the Oslo, Norway concert, "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Bad" weren't performed for the rest of the tour, although the songs did return for the first 4 concerts in Tokyo.
• "Workin' Day And Night" and "Beat It" were taken out of the setlist in the third leg. The cherry picker that was used for "Beat It" in the first and second legs was then used for "Black or White" in some concerts in the third leg.
• "Rock with You" and "Remember The Time" were taken out of the setlist due to wardrobe malfunctions.
• Rehearsals for the tour have taken place in Jackson's Neverland home. Footage of the rehearsals can be seen on YouTube.
• The concert in Bucharest has been released on DVD, making it the most popular concert of the tour. It was later officially released on YouTube in 2019.
• The 1993 shows included on their set list the song Dangerous which was performed the same way Michael performed it at the 1993 American Music Awards.
• The We Are The World interlude in the 1993 shows was extended, starting with the band and the backup singers singing along with the crowd.
• In some early 1992 shows Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' and Beat It were performed in their original key.
• Diana Ross was in attendence on the Oslo show on July 15th 1992.
• Man in the Mirror was taken out of the setlist during Argentina (final night), Brazil (first night) and Israel (first night) shows.
• The magic trick at the end of Thriller was not performed at the third leg and at select first leg shows.
• Michael cut his finger during the performance of Jam in the Copenhagen show, prompting Michael Bush to put a bandage on Michael's finger during Human Nature.
• The silver jacket that Michael wore during Jam in the 1992 shows (except for Munich and all Tokyo shows), was used for the Jackson 5 medley in the 1993 shows.
• Will You Be There had 3 different endings during the tour: in one Michael would be joined by a female dancer in a angel costume (similar to MTV 10th Anniversary performance in 1991); in another one Michael would be joined by a girl who would do sign language and in the final one he would finish the song alone.

10/04/92: Istanbul, Turkey, İnönü Stadium; CANCELLED (Jackson arrived in Istanbul 2 October. Five hours before Jackson was due to perform, an announcement was made that, due to a vocal cord ailment, the concert had been cancelled.) During the same tour he later performed in Istanbul, Turkey 23 September 1993.

10/10/92: Athens, Greece, Olympic Stadium; CANCELLED (due to serious health problem)

The European leg of the Dangerous World Tour ended after 37 of 42 planned dates (Gelsenkirchen, Basel, Istanbul, Izmir and Athens were the planned and cancelled dates during the first leg of the tour) due to Jackson’s ill health. Jackson rested for several weeks before flying to Tokyo to perform another 8 sold out shows at Tokyo Dome in 1992.

There were some initial plans to take the tour also to Venice, Italy; Liverpool, England; Nuremberg, Germany (the concert was moved to Bayreuth, Germany); Stuttgart, Germany (the concert was moved to Ludwigshafen, Germany); Seville, Spain. These plans were later suspended due to tour restructuring.

Jackson had also planned to end the 1992 Europe tour in Moscow Red Square, Russia. During the same tour he later performed in Moscow, Russia 15 September 1993.

08/15/93: Hong Kong, Sha Tin Racecourse; CANCELLED (Originally, the Dangerous World Tour was to begin in Hong Kong with shows on August 15 and 16. Those dates were cancelled and could not be rescheduled because it would conflict with the start of the racing season.
