"Christmas Star" is a cover of John Williams' song written and produced by Michael Jackson intended for his 1995 double album, HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. ( listen)
Background[]
"Christmas Star" was originally written by John and featured in the Home Alone 2: Lost in New York movie. Jackson wanted to cover the song and worked on his version in the summer of 1994 during the HIStory sessions. Jackson never got to record vocals for it however.[1]
“ | We recorded a Christmas song during the summer of '94 that needed a children's choir. Michael insisted that the entire studio be decorated with xmas lights, tree, fake snow and a sled for their recording. And he bought presents for everyone. | ” |

During the Brad Sundberg laptop theft in January 2023, a Christmas Star Orchestra Kids Choir ProRes.mov video leaked online. This featured an instrumental and a choir for what would end up being Michael's cover.
Lyrics[]
Please note that these aren't the full lyrics
...to guide me?
Star light, shine bright
See me through the dark night
Light my pathway
Guide me home for Christmas Day
Midnight stars, they sail the sky in silence
Hearing all they see, are they hearing me?
Wonder what they see, are they watching me?
Christmas Star, you spin your strands of silver
What a sight to see, are you there to guide me?
Star light, shine bright
See me through the dark night
Light my pathway
Guide me home for Christmas Day
Christmas Star light
See me on my way
Light my pathway
Guide me home for Christmas Day
