"Bill's African Groove" (also referred to as "African Groove") is a placeholder title for an unreleased song written by Michael Jackson intended for the Bad album.
Background[]
The track was co-written with Bill Bottrell (who also produced it) and recorded between October 8-10, 1986 during the early Bad sessions at Hayvenhurst. The working title was revealed on December 5, 2024 through a reply on X with a list of Bottrell's notes.[1] Bottrell confirmed that it was an instrumental only.[2]
“ | [...] "African Groove" was a more finished song idea I put together while MJ was away and I had time alone. No vocals were ever tried. | ” |
