Ben is the sophomore studio album by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson released on August 4, 1972 and recorded between November 1971-February 1972. It was a great success to Michael and it helped him boost up his album sales. Additionally, his voice began to slightly change.
Background[]
The album is full of covers of popular songs at the time. These include: "My Girl" by The Temptations, "People Make the World go Round" by The Stylistics, "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" by Lionel Hampton, "You Can Cry on My Shoulder" by Brenda Holloway and "Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day" by Stevie Wonder. "In Our Small Way" already appeared in the previous album, however it was re-released on Ben due to time constraints while working on the album.[1] The title track was featured as the theme song in the 1972 movie of the same name. It was nominated for The Academy Award for Best Original Song, although it lost.
