"A Pretty Face Is" (also referred to as "Pretty Face") is an unreleased duet between Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson intended for an unknown project and later for Stevie’s 1987 album, Characters.
Background[]
Stevie confirmed the track's existence during an interview in Japan in 1988. Wonder said he envisioned the song to be a duet with Jackson.
“ | Michael and I had been talking for some years about doing some songs together. There were two songs that I had written that we talked about doing. One was called A Pretty Face Is and the other was Get It. We've been talking about doing A Pretty Face Is at a later time. | ” |
“A Pretty Face Is” was first written and recorded in 1974 and later re-recorded for Stevie's 1987 album, Characters. It ultimately didn’t make the final cut however.[1]
On December 12, 2024, 12 tapes containing various unreleased songs, including "A Pretty Face Is" were found in an abandoned storage unit. The recently found version was written without Stevie and was instead written by Jackson and produced by Bryan Loren during the Dangerous sessions between 1989-1990, meaning that it was most likely considered for the album at one point. Jackson only ever recorded the chorus, with the rest being instrumental.
