"2 Bad" (originally titled "Too Bad") is a song by Michael Jackson released as the twelfth track on the second disc of the HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I album. Shaquille O'Neal is featured in a rap verse. The song contains funk, rock, and hip-hop sounds while the lyrics express anger and confidence in his ability to recover from people who have conspired against him in the past.
Background[]
"2 Bad" was one of the earliest songs started for HIStory, being one of the ideas worked on by Bruce Swedien and René Moore in February 1994 before Michael even arrived on the project.[1] It started in a similar way to "Jam", as a groove based off samples and drum loops. Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis later did additional production on the song, adding keyboard bass parts.[2]
Choreography[]
The song is known to have been planned to be performed at the HIStory World Tour. A choreography was made for it, although it unfortunately went unused as the track was taken off the setlist.
The choreography was reused in Michael Jackson's Ghosts short film and for "Threatened" during the This Is It rehearsals.

"2 Bad (Refugee Camp Remix)" is a remix of "2 Bad" done by Wyclef Jean of Fugees and released as the eighth track on the Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix album. John Forté is featured in a rap verse.

Auctioned HIStory studio tapes
- "2 Bad" contains a sample from Run-D.M.C. as the track begins with a demo of "King of Rock". The lyrics pertain to the Caucasian rock establishment.[3]
- This is the third time Michael has worked with a basketball player. (Michael Jordan in the "Jam" short film and Magic Johnson in the "Remember the Time" short film).
- In 2016, a studio tape with a demo of "2 Bad" under the title of "Too Bad" was auctioned through eBay.
